![]() ![]() ![]() Well I can play the E minor, A major and C minor Chopin preludes (though I'm not sure I play them perfectly, just play them). I have a couple of months before I can move to a new teacher so I'm trying to 'plan things out'. Would a student want to learn ALL of the pieces from these books before progressing or just some of them? Which editions of these or any other sets of pieces would be suggested? The Alfred Masterwork editions look good since they include detailed explanations on ornamentation and playing (helpful for a beginner), but the Alfred edition of the Anna Magdalena notebook is only 'Selections' and not the whole notebook. The inventions seem a bit beyond my ability at the moment, so perhaps the Anna Magdalena notebook and the 18 little preludes to then progress onto more advanced works like 2 and 3 part inventions, followed by the WTC? My question is where to start with Bach? The only Baroque piece I have played is the first prelude from WTC I. I have played for a couple of years but have only played simple romantic stuff such as some of the easy Chopin preludes and easier Brahms, but I am moving to a new teacher soon and am thinking I should start with Bach and build up more a solid foundation with his music - I also need to work on my technique, counting and metronome use which my current teacher hasn't done much of.
